This workshop will be a great opportunity for any Veterans who are interested in learning about the Utility Workers Military Assistance Program and how to possibly become a union member. This is a six-month college credit program (52 credit hours) at Dawson Technical Institute. We are recruiting for a whole cohort to start in August 2022. Although this is an unpaid training course, after your successful completion of the in-classroom training, immediately there is a paid Internship and job placement with a local major utility employer. This program is in partnership with the agency Chicago Federation of Labor and the City of Colleges of Chicago. Topics of discussion include, but are not limited to: • Program requirements and length of time of commitment • Program applications and registration • Curriculum of the training • How to possibly become a union member • Veteran support services • And much more! The following information is REQUIRED on the day of event (NO EXCEPTIONS): • Proof of birthdate • Proof of work authorization in the USA • Proof of U.S. Citizenship • Proof of military service: Veteran ID card or DD-214 • Proof of current address, Selective Service Compliance • Latest pay stub, lay off letter, College Degree/Transcript • Current valid driver’s license (Your Illinois license has to pass Department of Transportation requirements) • Resume • Note taking gear Extensive background checks will be conducted. Your background must pass Homeland Security. You must be able to pass a physical ability test. Other requirements may apply, but will be explained.
