IDES Privacy Statement

Disclosure of Information

You have entered the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) web site, an official Illinois government system which may be used only for authorized purposes. Thank you for visiting us. IDES ("the Department") is committed to protecting the privacy rights of Illinois employers, workers, and citizens. These rights are established by state and federal law, including but not limited to the Unemployment Insurance Act, the Social Security Act, the Workforce Investment Act, the Illinois Administrative Code, and the Department's policies and practices. No information you provide to us on any IDES document or form, or pursuant to any Departmental service will be disclosed except in accordance with the confidentiality provisions of the applicable laws. Unlawful or unauthorized disclosure of confidential information by the Department is strictly prohibited. Information you provide us may in certain situations become public records and/or subject to disclosure under applicable law. No personal information you provide to us will be sold or rented to any entity or individual.

Collection of Information

We will not collect personal information about you just because you visit this web site. In order to improve the usefulness of this site for our visitors, we automatically collect and maintain statistical information from our site's data logs that concern network flow and volume. This information consists of the following: the name of the domain from which the visitor accesses the internet (e.g. "a company.com"; "a school.edu"; or "an agency.gov"); the internet protocol address and port numbers; and the date and time the IDES web site is visited. We routinely analyze our web site logs to continually improve the value of the materials available on our site. Our web site logs do not personally identify individuals, and we make no attempt to link them with the individuals who browse these web pages. So that these web pages remain available to you and other visitors, we monitor network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information or otherwise cause damage to the web service. Use of this system constitutes consent to such monitoring and auditing. Unauthorized attempts to upload information and/or change information on this web site are strictly prohibited and subject to prosecution under applicable state and federal law.

Use of Social Security Numbers

The Illinois Department of Employment Security collects and uses social security numbers (SSNs) in the administration of the unemployment insurance and employment service programs. State and federal law require the Department to use SSNs for the purpose of verifying the identity of unemployment benefit claimants. SSNs are used in the administration of the employment service program to verify that unemployment benefit claimants have registered for work with the employment service, as required by law. The Department also uses SSNs in the development of aggregate statistics. The aggregate statistics do not identify individuals or disclose any SSNs. The Department complies with the strict requirements set forth in federal and state law for maintaining the confidentiality of SSNs and protecting against their unauthorized disclosure.
